What was Whisky Investment Partners?
Whisky Investment Partners was the consumer brand of Blackford Casks Limited, later reorganised under Decant Group Limited and rebranded to Decant Index. The legacy whiskyinvestmentpartners.com domain is reported offline; active operations now run through Decant Index, with HMRC-bonded storage in Alloa. Operator-claimed c. £100m of assets in storage.
Status: the legacy Whisky Investment Partners brand is treated as inactive. Cask whisky is unregulated by the FCA — there is no FSCS or FOS protection. The ASA has previously ordered the firm to clarify the unregulated nature of cask investments in its advertising.
How did Whisky Investment Partners work?
Under the legacy model, the firm sourced Scotch and Irish casks from distilleries and offered direct ownership to investors. Casks were stored in bonded warehousing with storage and insurance reportedly included on most purchases. Exit options included an in-house marketplace, private sales, auctions and bottling.
What did Whisky Investment Partners offer?
Historically cask ownership from c. £2,500 for Scotch (Irish and new-make priced differently). Storage and insurance reportedly bundled; exit fees and commissions vary and were criticised by the ASA for unclear disclosure. New investments should be assessed under the Decant Index brand.
Who was Whisky Investment Partners for?
The legacy brand is no longer the live route into the business. Investors evaluating the successor (Decant Index) must conduct fresh due diligence on contractual title, custody, fees and exit liquidity. Capital is at risk.
