    Overview

    About Glint

Glint is an app and debit Mastercard run by Glint Pay Services Ltd (company 10117131) from London. Customers buy allocated physical gold and silver, which Glint says they own outright, stored in Brink's vaults and insured through the Lloyd's of London market. Metal can be held, sent to other Glint users at no fee, sold back in the app, or spent with the card. Glint states that any amount can be bought or sold at wholesale market rates with a 0.9% fee, with an added margin outside trading hours; card payments and ATM withdrawals from metal also carry a 0.9% exchange fee. Anyone over 18 outside the EU can open an account; the card is issued to UK and US residents only. Glint Pay Services Ltd is authorised by the FCA as an electronic money institution (FRN 900657), but that covers its currency wallets and payment services only: the FCA states that buying gold through Glint is not a regulated activity, that gold holdings are not safeguarded, and that neither gold nor safeguarded funds are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. The company was in administration from September to November 2019, when it announced new investment and control returned to its management.
