Assetz SME Capital Limited (FRN 724996) was one of the UK's largest peer-to-peer business lending platforms, founded in 2013 in Manchester. At its peak, the platform had facilitated over £1.1 billion in loans to UK small and medium-sized enterprises, offering investors a range of lending accounts with varying risk and return profiles.
In 2020–2021, Assetz Capital wound down its retail P2P lending operations, ceasing to accept new investor capital and running off its existing loan book. The company pivoted to institutional-only lending under the Assetz Capital brand, focusing on SME and property-backed lending funded by institutional partners. The sister platform Assetz Exchange continues to operate in fractional property investment.
How does it work?
When operational as a P2P platform, Assetz Capital offered several investment accounts including the Quick Access Account, 30 Day Access Account, and Manual Lending Account — each with different liquidity and return characteristics. The platform used in-house credit teams to underwrite loans, which were predominantly secured against property or business assets.
What do they offer?
Assetz Capital's P2P investment products are no longer available to individual investors. The platform historically offered secured business lending with projected returns of 4–8% depending on account type and risk profile. An IFISA wrapper was available for tax-efficient investing.
Who is it for?
Assetz Capital's retail P2P lending product is closed. The platform is notable as one of the larger UK P2P platforms that wound down its retail operations during the sector's consolidation following enhanced FCA regulation. Investors with remaining positions in the wind-down book should monitor communications from the platform regarding loan repayments.
